| Translation help |
[Dec. 2nd, 2009|12:28 am] |
Hi there!
I've tried plugging this into various online translation thingers, but I'm not sure if they're spitting it out correctly. This is what I have:
Si me dieran a elejir una vez mas te elejiria sin pensarlo es que no hay nada que pensar que no existe ni motivo ni razon para dudarno ni un segundo porque tu has sido lo mejor que toco este corazon y que entre el cielo y tu yo me quedo contigo
My Spanish is horrible, and I can only pick out a word here and there. I'm not even sure if the spelling, grammar, etc, is correct in this. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! |

a paper I could use some help on...
I realize some of the paragraphs don't add up together, but just the grammatical help would be best.

| Que al mal tiempo |
[Nov. 30th, 2009|06:03 pm] |
Hello everyone,
I often hear the phrase, "Que al mal tiempo, buena cara."
The literal translation (if I'm doing it right) seems a bit weird to me. "At bad time, good face."
I'm guessing it should be translated more along the lines of, "In bad times, put on a good face."
Is that correct? Thanks for you help. |

| SVU #52: Fooling Around |
[Dec. 1st, 2009|01:19 am] |
Since Jessica's running after some dude who doesn't seem to be interested in her, and since Elizabeth's still Elizabeth, I'd put my money on the title of this book being extremely misleading. Although, turn the book over and the back reads, in big block letters, "IT'S NOT WHAT YOU THINK." Odd. What's not what I think? The stupid title? I don't understand. I haven't even cracked open the book, and already they've lost me.
There's nothing particularly snarkable about the cover, either. That's Jessica, having some serious fun with Fabio's younger brother. She also appears to have too many teeth. Way too many. As in, Jaws would be jealous. On with the snark!
( Sweet Valley fans ye be warned -- this book is astonishingly bad. ) |

| Series Re-Read #20 The Solution |
[Nov. 29th, 2009|11:14 pm] |
And now we have part 3 of the David trilogy. He's at his worst, and the group has to find a way to deal with him. But how do you stop a morph-capable person who's not going to listen to anything you say?
I know there'll be a lot of talk this time. Do you think force-nothliting him was the only way out of the issue? Obviously he wasn't safe as a rogue morph capable person...even if he didn't go to the Yeerks, and he wanted to, they could still catch him.
There's gonna be some talk about Cassie I expect because some people mentioned her moralizing in the ep before.
Of course here we have Rachel saying they never saw him again...I'm totally okay with it myself, I just figure she was telling the story maybe before book 49. Or is it 48?
Someone said they almost felt like the Animorphs were the bad guys in this trilogy...can you elaborate on that? I'm really curious. I can't recall if you did before or not, I forget lol |

| Did Anyone Here Also Watch Monk? |
[Nov. 29th, 2009|04:37 pm] |
So the final season of "Monk" is coming out - the last episode is next Friday, 9pm.
The reason I ask is because their goodbye song - "Time to Go" included people calling themselves "Monkalites" on the song's official YouTube page and I know that at least four people agreed with me that it seemed like a great way to introduce oneself as a "Monk" lover as well as an Animorph lover.
So did someone here make or take note of that comment? Is anyone, in fact, a fan of both?
Failing that... I think "Time to Go" would have worked well for Animorphs fans back 'round 2001. Except for certain things like not drinking, except I don't drink now that I'm 23 either so really there's no difference to me...
(Monk is not related at all to Animorphs, I just found it funny that people took specifically to the "alite" suffix.) |

¡Hola!
" A mí " no me parece apropiado. Estoy intentando decir " Traveling to Costa Rica, to me, is... "
Ingresar en la universidad y trabajar como una tutora han ayudadome... * ...pero creo que puedo mejorarme aún más. *¿Qué es la frasa por "open up to other people"? No puedo buscarla. |

| my life is average post again |
[Nov. 29th, 2009|05:57 am] |

Someone posted a week or so ago about an Animorphs-related My Life Is Average post. Well, here's another one that's a followup to the first one. Sadly though, the majority of commenters seem unaware that it's an Animorphs reference. Except for the person down the page who calls Animorphs "cooler than frozen cupcakes." I must heartily agree. |

Hello all!
There have been a ton of new 1bruce1 members lately, so strangerface and I wanted to drop you a quick note.
First off, hi! I'm irinaauthor, and Em and I are your friendly neighborhood mods. We're thrilled to pieces that you're here and we're pretty easygoing; there are just a few rules.
First, all members can make and reply to posts, so jump in anytime. All we ask, beyond doing a normal spelling and grammar check (no netspeak allowed), is that you not split a recap into multiple posts unless it's a super edition book, and put your recaps behind an LJ cut.
You can always see a running list of which books have been recapped on our profile page, if you'd like to read the recaps in number order.
Also, we have a request post where you can ask for books you'd like to see written up. If you have a bunch of Sweet Valley books and can't decide which one to recap, the request post could help you narrow it down.
If you're working on a recap, please give people a heads up here. It's okay if more than one person is recapping the same book; this is just so everybody knows what's in the pipeline. It's completely okay if we have more than one recap of a book. We all know there's more than enough mockable material to go around.
These posts are also linked from the profile page, to keep things easy to find.
In general, please only post recaps, funny SV-related things (ex. The "Mr. Collins if You're Nasty Day Planner" - we loved that post), news, etc. Please do not post random things that are only tangentially related to Sweet Valley. If you are unsure if a post is okay or not, feel free to send a message to Em or me. It never hurts to ask!
You can contact us anytime if you have any questions. |

| California Diaries #1 Dawn |
[Nov. 28th, 2009|09:41 pm] |
So I'm sitting here, staring at the tags in this group, and I can't believe my eyes. No one has touched California Diaries yet? Surely, my eyes must be deceiving me. Maybe no one else ever read them (I never did, until last month when I found the entire series at Friends of the Library for a buck a piece) and no one cares to snark them. Maybe they aren't snark worthy. Well, there's only one way to find out, right? I guess I have to read one.....
Dibbly Fresh is all screwy, so thanks to Goodreads for the image.

| Secrets 2008 pt. 1 |

I read Double Love, circa 1984 when I was 11, and at the same time was reading the Clique books. Then I read the 2008 version of Secrets, and I was upset. My precious link to the 80s and 90s was destroyed and just like every other book I read. Anyway, I'm going to do a recap adding extra product placement.
Jessica walks into school wearing a Roxy dress. A few sophomore bitches giggle at her, and she glares at them. This causes them to shut their Sephora Brilliant Shine glossed mouths. Then she encounters Lila and Cara, and whip out her Sidekick to show them the damage from the previous pool dipping. Cara mentions that most people still think it's Liz. Jessica doesn't care. Jess is so pissed she might post pics of Liz nude on the Gay Porn site's Lesbian page.
Winston is nominated for homecoming king of course. So are Bruce, Ken, and Todd. I've always pictured these guys as people from Degrassi. That's actually how I've pictured everyone. More in journal. The girls are Lila (well, duh), Enid, Elizabeth (LOL, Double E), and Jessica. Then Jessica sees Bruce. Winston seems a lot hotter than Bruce, but whatevs. He's wearing a pristine blue Ralph Lauren sweater and distressed pants. This is Jessica's dream outfit on Bruce. My dream outfit on Winston is no shirt and no underwear. Oh yeah, and no pants. Man, did I just say that. I'm such a pervert, but I'll just leave that here. Later at the Wakefields, Enid is freaking out in her Juicy sweats. Her hair is tied in a pony. Then she confesses that she is an ex-druggie. OMG! AND SHE AND HER EX-BF GEORGE PARALYSED A KID IN A CAR WHILE HOPPED UP ON DRUGS. You must understand how 100% intense this is. Um, not. And they've nicknamed George Geo. Like Natural Geographic. I think these prescription pills my mom gives me are making me high. As seen in SVH 2008 Reissue of #2: Secrets:
A direct quote about George, from Enid: "We kind of started hooking up and stuff, and he was into all this crap. Drinking and...other stuff.
Um, yeah. Then Enid logs on Liz's computer, and shows her AOL e-mails from Geo. Then, the girls think of possible solutions while hanging. Then Jessica daydreams about Bruce in French and orgasms. Winston distracts everyone, and then masturbates over Jessica under his table. Then Jessica goes back to her daydreams. Lila hates Ms. Dalton because she dates her dad and Ken, her homecoming date, wants some older woman. And Tom McKay's with Dana Larson. I wet my pants with laughter.
Later, Bruce suggests Jess go to homecoming with Winston, and Jess knows she's so out of his league. Then Jess pretends she lost her lavalier, and Bruce doesn't care. Winston does and he tries to help but Jess just leaves. |

| some Spanish indie rock and a bit of new wave |
[Nov. 27th, 2009|09:22 pm] |
I know we had a thread for this in the beginning of the month, but the music I have in mind doesn't seem to fit her request, so here's a bunch of Youtube videos of Spanish music I have liked. Most of it is more of the "indie" rock band sort, I guess. And some old school 80s New Wave just for kicks.
If you have any favorite Spanish music/videos you want to share, please comment away with them!

| #35 Stacey and the Mystery of Stoneybrook |
[Nov. 27th, 2009|09:45 pm] |
Thanks for stopping by for #35, Stacey and the Mystery of Stoneybrook, my first BSC snark and the only reason I created a LJ account! I was unaware of the existence of this until I had a look at a list to see how many BSC books I’d read and found that it’s a bit of a rarity, unsnarked anywhere, and according to someone on Amazon a ‘lost’ BSC book. It’s also appalling.
Cover from dibblyfresh.

| SVH Senior Year #32: Road Trip |
[Nov. 27th, 2009|01:31 am] |
Well, well, well. It's been far too long since we've delved into the emotional and troubled world of Senior Year, but with thanks to eBay, Australia Post and the letter E, we're headed down that road again. Prepare for angst. Seriously. Anyone who's ever read an SY book knows that these characters aren't even people -- they're walking, talking balls of angst disguised as people. If you're having a night alone and happen to have a bottle of tequila handy, why don't you go ahead and take a shot every time you see the word 'angst' in this recap? Let's see how far you get before paramedics have to be called.
Cover time:
Despite the fact that there's plenty of room, only drunk emo Conner is awesome enough to have his whole face feature on the cover. Jeremy and Evan are only lame semi-faces. What scares me most in this picture is that drunk emo Conner is smiling. And he's also thirty. Anyway.
( Crank up the mix tape and stock up on the Red Bull, 'cause we're going on a road trip! ) |

| Intro-y post and questions~ |
[Nov. 25th, 2009|08:25 pm] |
I've been in the comm for awhile but I've never said 'hi' so um, hi! I will say now, that I haven't read the series since I was in sixth grade, but got rehooked because I own the Hork-Bajir and Andalite Chronicals which are both massive win, and am totally rereading the series out of order! Because my library sucks and only has 29 of the books in the whole district. And their in the kid's section. I got stared at when I walked up there because when I say kid's section, I mean, with bees and flowers and pastel colors. I still think they have Animorphs miscategorized. And they were all large print. Which now makes me feel like a creepy old person who can't read 12 point font AND goes to the kid's section of the library for books! Anyone ever feel like that? And I'm slow and totally just make the connection between Chapman in the Andalite Chronicals and the Vice Principal. I feel dumb.
Moving on... Um, as far as character renderings go, are they any 'official' renderings beyond the vague book descriptions? Cuz I wanna do fanart and keep seeing human!Tobias as... kind of... pretty... not girly- but not masculine. ._. Yeah. Nextly, any tips about drawing Andalites? Should I just look up horse anatomy tutorials and work with that?
And finally: I never saw the 'show' of Animorphs on Nickelodeon(though I've heard it was fail) and I'm curious as to how they made the Andalites look in that. And the Hork-Bajir. They're badass aliens. They seem like they would be hard to make in live action stuff. So... screencaps maybe?
And how do the tags work in this comm? Okay- I am now done. Thank you in advance! And this comm is win.
Expect fanart. EDIT: Fixed tags! 8D |
